Social Planning Team
The purpose of the social planning team is to organize, plan, advertise, and carry out community building events for students within PLP. The social planning team is lead by a staff liaison and student “intern” interested in a career involving such event planning. The intern oversees teams of students who sign up to help with individual events, which provide both the intern and the team with great opportunities for leadership development. The social planning team is responsible for seasonal events such as the Back to School Bash, Costume Bash, and End of the Year BBQ, in addition to 2 events each semester which cater to prospective PLP students.
PLP Council
PLP Council was created in the spring of 2007 by a small group of dedicated students who sought to affect change within the Program itself. The Council is a student run forum to provide input on the leadership and direction of the PLP. Students serving on the Council are expected to be highly involved with their classmates to express their opinions of PLP events and policies.
PLP Council Purpose: The core purpose of the PLP Council is to advance the PLP through representative decision-making that addresses the present and evolving needs of PLP students and the Program in order to enhance the students’ leadership development.
PLP Council Vision: To be a self-sufficient, highly-regarded, and influential member of the CNU community that effectively represents the needs of PLP students, advances the Program and is viewed as a best partner among campus organizations and university administration. This will be accomplished by leading collaboration between the PLP committees, creating and maintaining a mutual exchange of ideas with PLP students, influencing positive change through innovative campus and community outreach, and creating lasting partnerships with the best leadership development programs across the country. Lastly, Council membership will be highly desirable, attracting the best candidates who will foster continued influence on the program and the CNU community.
iNSPIRE: Inspiring Newport News Students Providing Initial leadership Resources through relational Exchange.
iNSPIRE Team was created in Fall of 2007 in view of the partnership opportunity between the needs of NNPS students and CNU students, and more specifically the need for inspiration in NNPS students, and CNU PLP students' charge to serve, lead, and make a difference in the community, thus a powerful learning relationship between NNPS and CNU founded on the need for relevant leadership. iNSPIRE grew out of 3 years of Middle School Leadership Conferences put together and sponsored by students of the President's Leadership Program, which in 2007 became “The Journey of the Incredible” (JOTI). iNSPIRE is currently responsible for JOTI, workshop development for on-site sessions, and multiple mentorship programs.
iNSPIRE's mission: To connect CNU PLP and Newport News students to create a channel for the exchange of life experiences and leadership development through conferences, workshops, and mentorship programs.
iNSPIRE's vision: To transform Newport News through inspirational service to the younger student generation, enabling and empowering them to be initiators of desired change. |
